ST12 DCS/PLCs Systems II (5 days)

This module is a follow up to the Introduction to PLC Module. Students will continue to program PLCs using sequences for more complex operations. Projects will be assigned to force the application of the theory behind the PLC. Instructions available on the PLC will also be explained before they are attempted in the lab. Process control and strategies implemented on DCS will be sued to reinforce PID concepts. System configurations of single and multi-loop controllers will be performed as well as the production of functional block and configuration diagrams. Students will use a computer program to develop and produce configurations required to perform specified algorithms.

Module Content:

  • Review of time and event drive sequences
  • Advanced features available such as Fine time base instructions, shift register instructions
  • Use and understand terms and acronyms
  • Select function blocks, and interconnect function blocks
  • Determine termination types and configurations
  • Examine, program and test cascade and ratio control
