Cambrian College receives funding for a major project on student mobility

Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) recently announced funding for a project on student mobility. Cambrian's proposal entitled, "Sustainable Tourism: A Transatlantic Perspective," is one of eight applications selected for funding under the Canada-European Union Program for Cooperation in Higher Education, Training and Youth. This project brings together partners from Nova Scotia, British Columbia, and three countries in the European Union, namely, United Kingdom, Spain and Finland, with Cambrian College as the lead institution. The other partners are the College of the Rockies (British Columbia); Mount Saint Vincent University (Nova Scotia); Hyvinkka-Riihimaki Vocational Adult Education Centre (HRAKK),Finland; Scottish Agricultural College, United Kingdom; and Universidad Catolica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), Spain.

The project is funded over a three-year period. The partners in the consortium propose to bring together 60 exchange students from Canada and the European Union to explore, study, and gain a better understanding of sustainable tourism and to acquire international competencies leading to an International Certificate in Sustainable Tourism. The students will take second language, international relations, and cultural studies courses and will gain an increased understanding of sustainable tourism. The long-term goal of the project is to develop a Canadian/European Union partnership that will continue to support academic exchanges involving faculty and students, in order to strengthen tourism programs at each partner institution.
