Subject: Re: Have I completed the T3 requirements? -- you sure have

Hi Greg:

Sorry you were reduced to writing this plea for clarification. You're right about the reasons for our lack of response -- I've been on the road training for the majority of the past four weeks -- but that is an explanation for our lack of response, but not a good reason. And so I apologize.

I've been trying to block out some time to go and mark all the portfolios, and never seem to get there. But maybe the key here is to just do one portfolio at a time. With that in mind, I've just gone to look at your participation and am happy to report that you have, in fact, completed all the necessary requirements for the T3, both the online portion and the f2f.

In fact, you completed them with a style I really enjoyed. So, please go ahead and do the video evaluation. I look forward to seeing it and wish you the best of luck in your session. I do hope that you and your family are enjoying a relaxing holiday season.

cheers,
Bonita.

3. Feedback from participants & coordinator on T3 session delivery:

Teaching Session Evaluation
from Training Coordinator and Participants
WebCT F2F @ Ohio State University
Feedback:
Tools & Strategies for Teaching Online
Instructor: Greg Cooper

One thing that you think you did well:
"I danced." I responded well to the positive responses to the audience.

One thing that you think you needed to work on:
I panicked (server malfunctioned...GB) and probably said "Ahh" to many times.

Things that we feel you did well.

A) You did not appear to have a problem going with the flow
B) Did wonderful not getting hyper and its obvious that you know how to act in a situation like this (refers to server malfunction after training session started....GB)
C) Nicely laid out
D) Starting out, breaking the things down and going through the steps... anxiety factor. Did not seem to be bothered by this, good solid tool and continued to bring us along
E) Closure great
F) When someone asked a question and then you asked if you answered their question
G) Redundant... kept repeating information that was valuable
H) Handled questions well. Didnt talk down to the audience. Came back to verify the comment about the "big white frame"
I) You explained that the calendar has a lot more capability than just being a "calendar."

Things you need to work on

A) Ask more questions of the audience
B) You might have some faculty that aren't as quick with the mouse. Give verbal directions-where the buttons are.

Bonita's comments (Ms. Bonita Bray was WebCT Corp's T3 & F2F Training Coordinator)

1.)     Way you interacted with the group was excellent
2.)     Could hear you,
3.)  You moved around
4.)   Articulated well
5.)   Comfortable to be there
6.)   Liked that you stated why youre using it
7.)   Handled the problem very well
8.)   Even though you had to deal with a problem you made us feel comfortable with it

Would have wanted

  1. Explain that we were in student view, and you were in designer view.
  2. Would have liked to link to course materials
  3. Noticed that you said "Umm" a lot and you might want to realize that
  4. Show the calendar with a new entry in the "My WebCT"

Subject: Wow, nice training strategy! Mind if I ask some questions?

Hello,

Please excuse the intrusion, but over the last few days I've been hunting through the web looking for innovative training strategies for WebCT. Yours is definitely one of them. We are presently "revamping" our training strategy and I'm wondering if I can ask some questions regarding your programme.

We presently teach the tools to users in small groups (4-12 typical) in a 9 course programme but this is problematic. I'm wondering how long you have been using this individualised strategy and how scalebale it is. (i.e. how many potential users you have. We have probably 400 staff using webct at present with 2-3 signing up each week for new courses.

Our team consists of 2-3 people able to work at this level. 1 to 1 training with a well structured individualised plan which seems to be what you are getting people to sign up for would be a very nice outcome for us. We have tried offering individual consulting but this has been less used then we would have likes. Perhaps we needed to be more clear in what we offered or perhaps there are other factors at work.

A final question, how successful has your programme been? It looks like a winner. I really would appreciate any feedback you can offer as we need to come up with the best approach for all concerned (academic and support/training staff). Thanks very much for your time.

Warm regards from Sydney

7. Testimonial from K. Allnut, WebCT Training Evaluator, regarding videotaped training session

"Greg really knows WebCT in and out and demonstrates his knowledge in his examples, activities, descriptions, and responses to attendees. Because of his knowledge and experience using WebCT, Greg does an excellent job combining the how and why of using WebCT seamlessly.

You are a real asset to the Canadian group of WebCT certified trainers. It sounds like the direction you are taking with weekly departmental trainings is an effective way to motivate and empower groups within a discipline. Sounds as though youve done a good job on recognizing a local process that could use improvement and finding an appropriate solution."
